SAUDIS PROPOSE GIVING PORTION OF THEIR OWN LAND TO IRAQ IN EXCHANGE FOR ASSURANCES Mecca-Adjacent, Saudi Arabia - (GIN) - In response to a suggestion by an Iranian newspaper columnist, Saudi Arabia announced it would give hundreds of thousands of acres to Iraq in exchange for Iraqi assurances that it would not invade. "If only we had thought of this before," said a member of the Saudi royal family, "we would not have had that war." Iraq said it's assurances were ironclad. "You can trust us," said a spokesperson for Saddam Hussein, on penalty of death. Egypt and Ethiopia are reportedly considering a similar deal. "Egypt would give land to Ethiopia in exchange for peace," said an Egyptian diplomat. "And Syria and Lebanon are also considering this idea," he said. Lebannon, which already gave Syria a huge chunk of its terrority in the 1970s, was reportedly considering giving its entire nation to Syria in exchange for "total peace," said its ambassador to Syria. "Years ago we gave part of our land for partial peace. It doesn't work. You have to give everything. That's what we're planning now," he said. |
