SUNDAY PUNDITS QUESTION BUSH'S ABSENCE FROM WHIDBEY; NATION YAWNS Atlanta, GA - (UGN) - With the successful return of the spy plane crew and the budget battle yet to kick into high gear, the nation's pundits chose to focus on the major issue of the day: Bush's absence from the Whidbey welcome home ceremonies. "He should've been there," insisted Mark Smith on CBS' Face Some Of The Nation. "He failed to act presidential." "The focus belonged on those boys, those heroes," countered Bob Smith, in the spirited discussion. "He's diminishing the Presidency," declared Jim Smith on NBC's Meet Some Of The Press. "Reagan would've been there." "You're wrong," argued Steve Smith, as the discussion escalated into heated debate. "I'm not wrong," Smith argued back. "Yes you are!" Smith shouted. "You're wrong!" Smith shouted back. "No, you are!" Smith screamed. "He's the President, for goodness sake. What's he doing in Texas?" Elaine Smith asked pointedly on Wolfen Blitzen's CNN Sunday show. "It's about time we had a President who didn't hog the spotlight," retorted Tiffany Smith-Smith. "Hog the spotlight? It's doing his duty, welcoming home heroes," declared Smith. "Oh, like you know about duty," challenged Smith. The frenzied debate continued throughout the morning, until the sports contests began, but was expected to carry-over into the Monday and Tuesday editorial pages of the nation's newspapers. |
