SUPREME COURT RULES LAWS ARE LEGAL Washington, D.C. - (GPS) - In an unexpected turnaround and stunning victory for post-Watergate campaign finance reformers and reforms, the Supreme ourt ruled yesterday that laws are legal. The turnaround was unpredicted and in stark contrast to the Court's rulings during and since the election debacle, according to Court observers and analysts. "This court has paid particular attention to avoiding the spirit and intent of most laws. Their rulings have been arbitrary, capricious, self-serving political and ideologically-inspired nonsense," said one attorney who asked not to be identified. "That's why this ruling was such a surprise," he said. Justice Clarence "Coke" Thomas, writing for the minority in the 5-4 decision, argued that politics is the same as pornography. The Justices writing for the majority did stress that the concept that laws are legal applies only to this case and should not be interpreted broadly. |
