EUROPEANS PROTEST McVEIGH EXECUTION by Robert Fontneau In a totally unsurprising story, Europeans expressed a Holier-than-thou attitude toward the Timothy McVeigh execution. "That's not the way we treat mass murderers here," said one resident of Romania. "Here we make them our political leaders." Those sentiments were echoed by people from other countries, such as whatever the hell the ones that used be Yugoslavia are called. "Yes, come to think of it, our political leaders are all mass murderers too," they said, although understanding them was difficult because they all talk really funny. Newspaper headlines screamed condemnation, but understanding them was difficult, too, because there's vowels missing all over the place. TV commentators-- well, the TV is really fuzzy. Don't even get me started on those stupid European movies. When asked to comment on the protests, President Bush (the young one, not the old one), said, "I don't really pay much attention to it. Europe is a really big country, anyway, so of course you're gonna have some trouble-makers. They certainly didn't complain when we bailed them out in the big one." Most of the protesters had one big question in mind as they awaited Bush's arrival. "What is former President Clinton up to? I haven't heard anything about him lately," a black-clad, stinky-cigarette-smoking Frenchman asked, expressing a global concern. "Yes, he has been strangely silent, no?" said another, in that typically annoying way that the French like to speak. But I must admit, they ask a good question. |
