CBS EXECS TOLD GRAMMY STARS: "NO ANTI-WAR SPEECHES"
"The Words Of The Prophets Are Written On The Tenement Walls, Not Spoken On National TV"
Ground Zero, NY - (GNS)
- CBS Executives confirmed yesterday they told Grammy Awards participants to refrain from "making an anti-war utterances" during introduction or acceptance remarks.
"You're either with us or against us," CBS Programming Standards Director Joseph Goebbels said.
"You know these musicians, they think they are somebodies. They write their poetry and the next think you know they think they have something to say," Goebbels said. "And the worst thing about it is, the kids listen."
The Awards ceremony went off "without a hitch", Goebbels said, although it was marred by one incident when Bonnie Raitt mentioned "peace".
"She almost crossed the line," Goebbels said.
Goebbels said CBS is planning a special after the war about the anti-war movement. "That will be the time and place to make the argument. Not now."
